I have a question about kanji. I don't understand why most kanji have at least two readings - the Japanese one and the Chinese one. Though the Japanese lacked a writing system, they did have the words for things like 'sun,' 'moon,' 'tree,' 'mountain'... So why did they borrow the Chinese words while at the same time keeping their own words, ( Read more... )
